Legal Disclaimer

iLawForms sells a tool, not advice. This page sets out exactly where that line falls, because on a product like this the line is the most important thing about it.

iLawForms is not a law firm

iLawForms is not a law firm. We are not lawyers or attorneys, we do not practise law, and we are not a substitute for a lawyer. Nothing on this website, in the product, in any email we send, or in any document the Service generates is legal advice.

No attorney–client relationship exists between you and iLawForms at any point, for any purpose. Because there is no such relationship, your communications with us are not privileged and are notprotected by the attorney–client privilege or the work-product doctrine. If you need to say something in confidence, say it to a lawyer, not to us.

No employee, contractor or automated feature of iLawForms is authorised to give you legal advice, and any statement that looks like legal advice — from a support reply, from documentation, from the questionnaire, or from anything generated by the Service — is not legal advice and must not be relied on as such.

What we actually do

iLawForms is a self-help tool. You answer questions about your own business. Those answers become a structured set of facts, and the facts select clauses from a library of standard text, which are assembled into a document. The process is deterministic: the same answers always produce the same document.

That is the whole of our role. We record what you tell us and we produce the document your answers describe. We do not:

  • tell you which document you need, or whether you need one at all;
  • advise you how to answer a question, or what a particular answer means for you;
  • review your business, your website, your contracts or your circumstances;
  • select, draft or tailor language for your specific situation;
  • tell you whether a generated document is enough for your purposes;
  • represent you before any court, regulator or counterparty; or
  • exercise legal judgement on your behalf in any respect.

Help text in the questionnaire explains what a question is asking, in the way a form’s instructions do. It is general information about terminology. It is not a recommendation about how you should answer, and we cannot make one.

The decisions are yours

You choose which documents to generate, how to answer, whether the result is suitable, and whether to publish it. You are responsible for those choices and for their consequences.

A generated document is only as good as the facts behind it. We do not verify anything you enter. If you say your business does not use analytics and it does, the policy will be wrong, and it will be wrong in the direction that matters — a published privacy policy that misdescribes your practices is itself a misrepresentation, and in several jurisdictions an actionable one. That is a risk the tool cannot remove for you.

No guarantee of legal sufficiency

We do not represent or warrant that any document generated by the Service is legally sufficient, accurate, current, complete, or appropriate for your business; that it complies with the law of any jurisdiction; or that it will be accepted by any court, regulator, auditor, insurer, app store, payment processor or counterparty.

Using iLawForms does not make you compliant with anything, and no outcome is promised or implied.

Compliance is a property of what your business does, not of the documents on its website. A correct policy describing practices you do not follow leaves you worse off than no policy at all, because it is evidence against you rather than for you.

The law changes, and we cover only some of it

Jurisdictions

Our clause library covers only the jurisdictions listed on ilawforms.comat the time you generate a document. A document generated for a covered jurisdiction says nothing about your obligations anywhere else, and being covered does not mean every rule in that jurisdiction is addressed — sector-specific regimes, such as those covering health data, financial services, children’s services or telecommunications, are not.

Currency

We revise the clause library as the law develops, and republish hosted documents when we do. That is a service commitment, not a guarantee: there is a gap between a law changing and a clause being revised, and there may be changes we do not catch. Nothing here creates a duty to advise you of a legal development, and our doing it in the past does not oblige us to do it in future.

Not tax, accounting, financial or security advice either

Nothing we provide is tax, accounting, financial, insurance, or information-security advice. The site scanner reports what it observed on pages it could reach; it is not a security assessment, a penetration test, or an audit, and a scan that finds nothing is not a finding that there is nothing to find.

Third-party material and links

Where we link to legislation, guidance, a regulator or another website, we do so for convenience. We do not control that material, do not endorse it, and are not responsible for its accuracy or availability. Statutes and regulatory guidance are quoted or summarised for general information and may be out of date by the time you read them.

When you should talk to a lawyer

A generated document is a starting point. Have a lawyer licensed in your jurisdiction review it before you rely on it — and get advice, not just a review, if any of the following is true:

  • you handle health, financial, biometric or children’s data;
  • you operate in a regulated sector, or hold a licence with its own conditions;
  • you have received a regulator’s enquiry, a complaint, or a demand letter;
  • you have had, or suspect, a personal data breach;
  • you are negotiating a contract that turns on these documents, or completing a funding round, acquisition or vendor security review;
  • your business operates somewhere our clause library does not cover; or
  • anything about your situation is unusual, contested, or expensive to get wrong.

We have no financial interest in whether you consult a lawyer and no arrangement with any firm. If a document seems wrong to you, it may well be — tell us at legal@ilawforms.com, and take advice.
